All these Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the very best banana flavored cookie I have ever had. Not only are they really are moist and chewy for days, they're unmistakably banana-y.

Banana may be one of those flavors that may get lost once you inhale with this. It can be quite subtle flavor. It always bums me out when that happens, because I really like the taste of banana. And thus does the hubs.

You start with mixing all of those beautiful ingredients together.

I have to warn you. The odor of the mixture -- using all the banana -- is intoxicating. The hubs was in the kitchen which makes the dough together with me (we left a bargain that contained him carbonated with me) and we both had to work hard to not put our faces, or a straw, straight in to it.

You then add all the dry ingredients (which usually means you simply use one bowl -- yay!) And mix it all together!

To bake themspoon out about a tablespoon of bread and produce a thick disk, instead of a chunk. They spread somewhat after baking, and thus don't place them too close together. Bake them for approximately 10-12 minutes for a nice, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

One other thing I really like about this recipe is really where it came from.

My grandma (my dad's mother ) passed out in 2008. After I started baking a lot a couple of years back, my uncle gave me cookbook he'd had and didn't use. I have had it in my list to create numerous her desserts since.

I now know just how much of an accomplishment it had been! My goodness. She left them with a traditional gaufrette iron that goes over a open flame. My father and I had them in the stove. They cook very quickly and you have to be exact. Too little time and they sort of disintegrated to the iron. Too long and they burnt to the iron and we still needed to clean it out.

My dad was minding the batter and removing the cookies, I had been working the iron, the hubs was timing things. It required quite a few tries to get it right, but they were so great! I've tried to create them on my own and it works. I'd like to share the recipe, however, the dang irons are all so tough to find. And pricey. Sooner or later, I'd like to just earn a cookie cutter with the same gaufrette taste.

It is such a fun recipe book to check through, too. There are so many handwritten pages, including clippings and newspaper recipes which were taped to the book. Anyways, I don't really know where this recipe originated out. The paper looks like it was on a flier from their square dancing class or something (they have been big into square dance ). It's definitely from West Virginia, where they dwelt.

Either way, I am so happy to finally talk about a recipe out of her book with you! I made a few changes to make them thicker and puffier and they are delicious. There'll be more to come from her recipe book, but for the time being like the banana.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies

Yield: 34-36 COOKIES


3/4 cup salted butter, softened (I use chalk Butter)

1 cup brown sugarpacked

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup mashed bananas

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch


1. Mix together butter, brown sugar, sugar, egg, vanilla extract and mashed bananas until well blended.


3. Stir in vanilla.


5. Flatten dough a little bitinto thick disks. They will spread a bit when boiled.


7. Remove from oven and cool on cookie sheet for 3-4 minutes, then move to cooling rack to complete cooling.
